2017 Year In Review

I'm on hiatus from blogging to finish writing a six-book mystery series. Three are done. Three are in various stages of completion.

This year has been absolutely horrible. A lot of bad people made a lot of bad decisions. And then there were all the hurricanes. In particular, the one in which I lost my home.

It took a while to happen, but I am in a better place now.

I look forward to a happier New Year.

What's Happening

I changed my mind about releasing T.F.F. — the first novella in the 'Fly on the Wall Detective Agency' series — in January, and have instead set my sights on a June release. Making the books available once a month will take me into December, just in time for a special Christmas announcement.

The six detective agency books featuring the private investigator team of Henry and Nita are part of the Point Jove Mystery set.

For now, I am spending time on promoting books that are already available.

Ask David

"Ask David" tweeted out an announcement for THE CAJUN GIRL: Part 1 of 2, my psychological suspense novel.

Indie writers, this is a great site to use to gain attention for your books.

Thanks, David!

CAPTIVITY, Book 1 in the Backwoods Justice trilogy, is today's highlight on "Free 99 Books".

Get it while it's hot!

Special Announcement

Both Cajun Girl books are now available on all venues.

THE CAJUN GIRL: Part 1 of 2
A Novel of Psychological Suspense

She survived a horrific childhood only to wind up trapped in a bitter, loveless marriage. Determined to find independence BJ Donovan, a French Quarter restaurateur, pens a work of fiction. Her book is a hit. But not for long. While interest in her debut crime novel continues to wane she comes up with a plan for how to top the bestseller list again.

THE CAJUN GIRL: Part 2 of 2
Twelve Gripping Episodes

A homicide detective’s interest in her goes beyond a string of unsolved murders. BJ can’t allow him to get too close. Under the guise of a book signing tour for her debut novel, she makes monthly trips to twelve specific cities in order to gather enough real-life material to complete her episodic thriller which she believes has bestseller potential. Will she also find the freedom she seeks? Or will she spend the rest of her life paying a debt she never owed?

What's Happening

The first draft of the first Point Jove Mystery novella is nearing completion.

The next story is waiting in the wings.

All six books have been titled and outlined. All six covers have been made. A brief synopsis has been prepared for each book. Each book is a standalone, so the set can be read in any order. The novellas are connected to the Backwoods Justice Trilogy (CAPTIVITY, BETRAYAL, PAYBACK).

Free eBook

THE GHOST OF MADDEN MANOR, a short paranormal romance story, is free for a limited time.

Following the untimely death of his parents, Daniel, a teenage outcast, reluctantly moves into his uncle’s home in the country where he’s left feeling even more friendless and isolated. He discovers a lonely girl is haunting the old mansion when he sees her standing at the outside entrance to the cellar. Her name is Lizze, she tells him, and this is where she stood the night she was murdered in 1897 on her seventeenth birthday.

The paramedics had taken his parents to the morgue long before he stepped off the high school bus. Severe weather warning sirens echoed hollowly as they wound down. The rain had stopped but a new round of lightning raised fears of another bad storm on the horizon. Daniel walked close to the remains of his home, the roof and walls scattered about like a high-speed fan had hit a house of cards. A fierce and devastating EF-5 tornado had made a direct hit on the low-income neighborhood and completely flattened it.

He stopped and looked around, his vision blurred by heavy tears. On the ground a couple of feet beyond where the front door once stood was his father’s favorite baseball cap. He picked it up, swallowed the lump in his throat. Unzipped his backpack, and put the cap inside. The sounds of pain and misery were all around him.

New Year's Resolutions 2017

Last year was horrible in so many ways. It didn't end well.

Awoke to rain and dark skies on this first day of the New Year.

I can't let the doom and gloom set the tone for 2017.

Therefore, I will...

...complete the Point Jove novellas by June.

...write a mystery novel featuring Detective Northcutt from THE CAJUN GIRL.

...put a short story collection together in time for Halloween.

...spend the first six months of this year on writing.

...spend the second six months of this year on promotion.

...spend more time outdoors, less time hunkered down in my den.
